At Lily Houston Design, we love all things Autumn, especially the food and drink Autumn weddings bring! With the crisp weather and bold colours we are drawn to warming, spicy flavours and rich, full bodied food and drinks, adding a whole new dimension to your wedding day options.
Bold, powerful flavours and looks work super well at an Autumn wedding, and everything from naked cakes to chocolate drenched, meringue and fondant covered concoctions fit the season perfectly. If you're looking for a show-stopper cake then be inspired by the fabulous cakes of London baker Fondant Fox.
If you're looking for a more traditional white iced cake, but want it to match your Autumnal theme you can consider different Autumnal flavours to embody the season, such as rich dark chocolate, carrot cake or orange and cardamom for something exotic. If you're feeling really adventurous you could try a different spiced flavour for each layer!
The Wedding Breakfast
Both Autumn and the countryside are famed for game and rich red meats, with the Cotswolds synonymous with warming game puddings and pies, perfect for a chilly Autumn day.
If you're looking for something a little lighter for your first married meal, locally sourced birds such as wood pigeon, partridge, duck and pheasant make the perfect alternative to chicken for something hearty, warming and a little unique.
For desserts think rich, jewel like berries and dark chocolate flavours. Autumnal twists on English classics such as dark berry Eton Mess or deconstructed Black Forest Gateaux are wonderfully nostalgic yet modern and delicious.
The last few years have seen so many distilleries and micro-breweries popping up all over the country, and we certainly are not short in the Cotswolds! At Lily Houston Design we absolutely love to 'eat local' and a wonderful way to celebrate this is to source your signature drinks locally too!
We simply adore the Cotswolds Distillery and their stunning Dry Gin, but they also make incredible Single Malt Whisky, perfect to warm your cockles and also a perfect colour match for the Autumn leaves outside.
For welcome drinks, a nice addition to the classic fizz or cocktail offering is a locally sourced cask of beer. We love everything created by Purity Brewing Co., especially their Longhorn IPA; with its Autumnal copper tones and hints of citrus, it's sure to warm your guests up! Even better, you and your fiancé can visit the brewery on it's working farm to choose your favourite beer and learn more about where it comes from.
English wine is on the rise, with more and more wineries and vineyards popping up across the south of England in particular, making this a great place to source Autumnal red wine for your meal and fizz for your toasts. The Gloucestershire based Three Choirs Vineyard is best known for fizz, but offers a whole range of amazing home grown wine.Elsewhere in the UK vineyards such as Camel Valley in Cornwall and Bolney in West Sussex provide stunning, local wines including bold reds, the perfect Autumn drink.
Of course, the best part about so much choice is getting to taste all of the delicious food and drinks with your fiancé while you're deciding!
Love, Lily x
